Amritsar: In response to a scheduled mahapanchayat, Indian authorities have sealed the Punjab border at the Tatiana and Sangatpura checkpoints to block farmers from gathering in Uchana, Jind, leading to significant disruptions and local discontent.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the closure of the border caused major traffic disruptions, forcing commuters and locals to divert to poorly maintained alternative routes. The presence of heavy police and paramilitary forces not only intensified traffic issues but also heightened tensions in the area.
Farmer leader Jarnail Singh criticized the government’s actions, saying, “A peaceful mahapanchayat was planned, but the BJP government, fearing the farmers’ gathering, closed all major routes connecting Punjab to Haryana.” The decision to seal the borders has been met with widespread resentment from the affected communities, who view it as an unnecessary and excessive measure against the farmers’ peaceful protest intentions.
