India can’t stop Kashmiris’ freedom march by caging, gagging leaders

Srinagar, March 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders have said that the Modi-led fascist India is using all draconian measures including raids and detentions to muzzle the Kashmiris’ voice of freedom.

The leaders in their statements in Srinagar made it clear to New Delhi that it cannot stop the Kashmiris’ march for freedom by caging and gagging their political leadership. They expressed serious concern about the well-being of thousands of Kashmiris including Hurriyat leaders, youth, students and activists lodged in different jails of India and the territory. Their only crime, they said, is that they are opposing India’s illegal occupation of their homeland.

The APHC leaders demanded immediate release of all Kashmiri detainees including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahidul Islam, Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Amir Hamza, Mushtaqul Islam and others.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), Altaf Hussain Wani has urged the United Nations Human Rights Council to influence India to release detained Kashmiri rights activists Khurram Parvaiz and Ahsan Untoo.

Taking part in the debate held under Agenda Item 5 of the 49th session of United Nations Human Rights Council Geneva, on behalf of the World Muslim Congress, KIIR chief said, “The Modi-led Indian government had responded to the expression of dissent and the exercise of the rights to freedom of expression with arbitrary arrests, intimidation, and a campaign of misinformation aimed at discrediting the work of Kashmiri rights activists.”

Khurram Parvez and Ahsan Untoo, he said, were being victimized for their work and standing up for the rights of their people. These detentions, he said, were part of Modi-led fascist government’s policy aimed at silencing rights defenders over authoritarian regime’s brutal policies towards Kashmir.
