Karachi: Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, has accused India of committing severe human rights violations in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as part of an effort to suppress the Kashmiris’ movement for self-determination.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Safi made these remarks during the launch event of “Kanan Poshpoora,” a book by Kashmiri writer Bashir Saduzai. The event was organized by the Palestine Foundation Pakistan at the Karachi Press Club.
The ceremony featured speeches from several notable figures, including Sardar Nazakat from the Pakistan People’s Party, Mahfooz Yar Khan from MQM, Muslim Pervez from Jamaat-e-Islami, APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Pervez Shah, and Altaf Hussain Wani, the Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations.
Safi contended that the Indian military has been given unchecked authority and is allegedly using sexual violence against women as a tool of war. He emphasized that no measures have been taken against those responsible for such crimes on any platform.
He commended Bashir Saduzai’s book as a significant historical account, urging the people of Pakistan, particularly the youth, to understand the struggles faced by Kashmiris in their quest for Pakistan’s completion and stability. Safi stated that the people of Kashmir would not forget the events of Kanan Poshpora.
Altaf Hussain Wani remarked that the spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken and that there has been no meaningful development in the occupied region. He asserted that infrastructure projects like the railway line do not substitute for the freedom sought by the people.
Advocate Pervez highlighted that Saduzai’s book serves as a reminder to the women of occupied Kashmir that the Kanan Poshpora tragedy remains a part of their collective memory.
