India Accused of Amplifying Immigrant Repatriation to Strain Pakistan-Afghan Relations

Islamabad, Pakistan’s recent decision to repatriate all illegal immigrants within its borders has been met with critique from India, framing it as mistreatment of Afghans. According to the released information, Pakistani authorities emphasized that the repatriation initiative isn’t targeted at any specific nationality. However, India’s portrayal of the situation seeks to sow discord between Islamabad and Kabul. Analysts speculate this Indian reaction might be an attempt to divert attention from the closure of the Afghan embassy in New Delhi and the denial of visas to Afghan students.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Furthermore, Afghans in India, many of whom have lived there for over a decade, face socio-economic challenges, lacking access to income, education, or health resources. In contrast, Pakistan, not being a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, offers Afghan nationals legal refugee status and access to basic amenities. India’s recent visa revocation for Afghan students adds to these disparities.
