Srinagar: In a move stated to ensure the safety of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have significantly increased security measures along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, deploying additional paramilitary and police forces.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the heightened security includes the addition of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, extensive CCTV surveillance, frequent metal detector checks, and the use of drone technology to monitor public movement. A canine squad has also been introduced as part of the new security protocols. While official statements claim these measures aim to secure the pilgrimage route, local sources suggest the increased military presence and surveillance are exacerbating difficulties for local Kashmiri commuters, intensifying the region’s already tense atmosphere.
