Incarcerated APHC Leaders Urge UN Intervention in Kashmir Dispute

Srinagar: Senior leaders from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), currently detained in India, have made a direct appeal to the United Nations to intervene in the Kashmir dispute, underscoring the urgency of resolving the issue to stabilize South Asia.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt and senior leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah, who are held in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail, have stated that India’s unyielding position on Kashmir continues to ignore the enduring desires of the Kashmiri people. They expressed that the dispute should be recognized not merely as India’s internal issue but as a significant international political and humanitarian crisis.

In their communications from jail, released in Srinagar, the leaders highlighted the historical context of the dispute, reminding that India itself had brought the issue to the UN, leading to numerous resolutions calling for its resolution. They stressed the importance of the UN’s role in mediating the conflict, given its longstanding involvement and the commitments made by India to consider the Kashmiri populace’s aspirations.

The APHC leaders called for immediate and decisive UN action to prevent further deterioration of the regional peace and stability, emphasizing that international intervention is crucial for a lasting resolution.
