In Punjab, the target area under cotton cultivation is 50 lakh acres and the production target is 82 lakh bales

Lahore, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab Government took active steps to increase cotton production in the province. On the instructions of caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi, the target of cotton cultivation area in the province was set at 50 lakh acres and the production target was set at 82 lakh bales and each division and district was given the task of achieving the cotton cultivation area and production target.

It was decided in principle to give a special incentive package to the farmers to increase the area under cultivation and production of cotton. The proposal of giving agricultural intervention and easy loans to the farmers was considered.

The caretaker chief minister asked for a detailed plan from the Punjab Bank. Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed that the commissioners and deputy commissioners should provide all possible facilities to the farmers to achieve the targets of cotton.

The minimum support price of cotton has been fixed at 8500 rupees. Mohsen Naqvi directed to ensure the availability of certified seeds of cotton in any case and said that for the acquisition of certified seeds federal Support will also be sought from the government. Action should be taken against those selling defective seeds and fake pesticides. Farmers, administrative officers and staff of the agriculture department who have achieved cotton targets will be encouraged.

The caretaker chief minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, in a special meeting before leaving for London, asked the agriculture department, administration and information department to increase the area of cotton cultivation. In the meeting, Provincial Ministers SM Tanveer, Amir Mir, Pattern Chief of Aptma Gohar Ijaz, Fawad Mukhtar, Shahid Sattar, and Dr. Jawad, Secretaries, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, Chief Executive Officer Punjab Investment Board and Concerned authorities attended.

Chief Secretary, Secretary Agriculture South Punjab, Commissioners and Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University Faisalabad participated through video link. The farmers, administrative officers and the staff of the agriculture department will be encouraged.
