In India under Modi, ‘Father of Nation’ Gandhi portrayed as demon

New Delhi, October 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):In the present-day India under Narendra Modi’s Hindutva government, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who has been regarded by the Indians as “Father of the Nation” until before the Bharatiya Janata Party came into power, is portrayed as a demon in religious places to wipe out the apparent secular face of India and turn the country into a blatant Hindu Rashtra (state).

The latest incident took place in Kolkata, the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal, where police are investigating a case wherein Hindu goddess Durga is seen attacking a statue of Gandhi with her trident at Navratri Durga Puja hall.

In the BJP government, Gandhi, known as the ‘Father of the Nation’, is being criticized in by Hindu extremist leaders and is often accused of being soft spoken for Muslims. Police are investigating who placed the Gandhi’s statue in the Durga Puja hall. According to reports, the hall where the statue of Gandhi was placed was installed by the Hindu extremist group ‘All India Hindu Mahasabha’.

Interestingly, the police simply asked the organizers to put a wig and mustache on the statue. A leader of the India Hindu Mahasabha told ‘The Hindu’ newspaper that he made the changes to the statue because the police forced him to do so. The shape of the statue resembles that of Gandhi, but at the same time he said that he does not consider Gandhi as the father of the nation. Various political parties including Congress have strongly condemned the incident.
