Islamabad: Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar announced on Sunday that comprehensive discussions are currently underway regarding a constitutional amendment, involving all political parties and legal experts, which has slightly delayed the legislative process.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar emphasized the critical and sensitive nature of the constitutional amendment during a media briefing. He noted that the process involves meticulous scrutiny of each provision and consultations with legal experts to ensure a thorough consideration of all aspects.
The government and its allies are deeply engaged in these discussions, and Maulana Fazl ur Rehman is coordinating consultations with the opposition parties on the draft amendment. Tarar highlighted the involvement of legal experts from all political factions, underscoring their significant influence on the process. He expressed a commitment to achieving a consensus among all parties to benefit the public.
Recalling the principles set forth in the Charter of Democracy, the Minister affirmed that the amendment aims to enhance public welfare rather than serving individual interests. He reinforced the authority of Parliament, as established by the 1973 Constitution, to amend laws and the constitution itself, aiming to empower citizens and strengthen national unity.
Despite some delays attributed to the depth of the discussions, Tarar assured that efforts to finalize the amendment are progressing, with expectations to conclude it soon. He promised that once consultations are completed, the draft would be made public through the media, celebrating the day as a testament to Pakistan’s democratic processes.
