Impending Weather Changes to Impact Wide Swaths of Pakistan

Islamabad, The National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a detailed alert predicting a significant shift in weather patterns across Pakistan from June 18 to June 22, 2024, due to moist currents from the Arabian Sea and a shallow westerly wave. The forecast includes thunderstorms and potential heavy rainfall in several regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and major provinces like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the weather system will bring thunderstorm-rains primarily in the northern areas such as Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir starting the evening of June 18. Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to experience widespread rain and thunderstorms affecting various districts including Dir, Swat, and Peshawar.

Punjab and Islamabad will see dust and thunderstorm-rains, especially around the Murree and Galliyat areas, starting the same evening. Southern regions like Balochistan and Sindh are also on alert for dust storms and gusty winds, expected to commence around June 20.

The forecasting center has advised all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and prepare for potential impacts like disruptions from dust storms, windstorms, and lightning, which could affect daily routines and damage loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels. Additionally, the expected shift in weather is predicted to alleviate the ongoing very hot conditions across most parts of the country starting June 19.
