IMO Secretary General Arrives in Islamabad for Maritime Sustainability Conference


Islamabad: Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), arrived in Islamabad today for a three-day visit to Pakistan. His visit coincides with the “International Maritime Sustainability Exhibition and Conference,” beginning today in the capital city and moving to Karachi later in the week.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Secretary General’s visit marks the first-ever visit by an IMO head to Pakistan. During his stay, Dominguez Velasco will engage in discussions that aim to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the IMO, particularly focusing on the maritime sector and the blue economy.



The conference, themed “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for sustainable maritime development. After its inauguration in Islamabad, the event will continue in Karachi until Saturday, offering extended opportunities for participants to explore various facets of maritime sustainability.



This visit and the accompanying events underscore the growing importance of maritime issues and their impact on global commerce and environmental conservation within the region.
