Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the immediate cessation of illegal constructions in several slum areas, issuing orders for action against unauthorized developments in Hasrat Mohani Colony, Mehmoodabad Nala, and Ghousia Colony. Residents were warned against participating in illegal activities, as they would bear responsibility for any resulting losses. KMC employees implicated in such activities would face anti-corruption cases and possible dismissal. The announcement was made during a meeting of the KMC Katchi Abadies Department attended by senior municipal officials.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, maps of KMC’s 202 Katchi Abadies will be made available on the KMC website to ensure transparency. Mayor Wahab emphasized that public property is intended for public use, and all procedures related to it should remain transparent. He declared that any construction on drains, as well as the development of multi-story buildings, petrol pumps, and CNG stations in slum areas, is illegal and requires immediate intervention.
Mayor Wahab expressed that the city could no longer tolerate illegal activities that have persisted over the past four decades. He assured full support to officers acting in the interest of Karachi and the KMC. Under the SLGA 2013, KMC holds the authority to halt illegal constructions, levy fines, and demolish unauthorized structures.
