Srinagar, June 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has said that the Kashmiri woman living under the shadow of war has a bitter experience of being a widow more than anybody else in the world.
APHC Secretary Human Rights, Arshad Aziz in a statement issued in Srinagar on the occasion of the International Widows Day, today, said, “The unfortunate part of the world – Indian illegally occupied territory continues to witness massive killings with impunity at the hands of Indian occupational forces, leaving behind widows and orphans in a destitute condition.”
Giving details of the number of widows, the statement said that there are around 23,000 widows whose husbands have been killed by the Indian occupation forces, plus thousands of women whose husbands suffered custodial disappearance and are still untraced thereby leaving an indelible mark of being Half Widow as they have been tagged in the Society. Over eight thousand Kashmiris have been subjected to custodial disappearance by Indian troops and police since January 1989 till date.
The APHC leader condemning the killing spree at the hands of the Indian occupational forces said that, although, the people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle for securing their inalienable right to self-determination as guaranteed by the United Nations Security Council resolutions, yet the Indian barbarism has crossed all its limits in destroying the social status and moral dignity of the widows in the occupied territory.
Blaming India for inflicting untold miseries and social stigmas on the womenfolk and using the all forms of harassment against them as a weapon of war, the Hurriyat leader denounced the India’s sadistic behaviour and termed it as the worst violator of human rights in terms of respect to women. He urged the United Nations Human Rights Council and all other human rights organizations to pressurize India to stop genocide, illegal detentions and disrespecting the chastity of women in IIOJK.
The APHC leader also urged the UN Secretary General to impress upon India to create a favourable atmosphere for an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UNSC resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
