IIOJK Under Lockdown Amid Election Commencement Fears

Srinagar: Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, especially its summer capital Srinagar, has been heavily fortified today as the initial stage of elections commences, with the city being declared a “red zone” for drone operations. The heightened security measures and surveillance have raised significant concerns about the restriction of freedom of movement and assembly.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the declaration of Srinagar as a red zone has intensified fears among the local population regarding their freedom and the democratic nature of the elections. The security measures, described by some as more befitting a war zone, include a substantial presence of forces personnel, random vehicle checks, and the establishment of special checkpoints throughout the city.

Inspector General of Police VK Birdi has stated that these arrangements are adequate for maintaining order during the election period. However, the heavy military presence and the atmosphere of fear and intimidation have led many to question the legitimacy of the electoral process in the region.

Additionally, the local populace is voicing their concerns, labeling the elections a mere facade. They argue that the process is being used to project an illusion of normalcy and democratic progress under the Modi regime, while in reality, contradicting the democratic principles it claims to uphold. The demand for their rights, as pledged by the United Nations, continues to be a significant point of contention during this tumultuous period.
