IIOJK to Observe Indian Republic Day as Black Day

Srinagar, Posters across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have announced plans to observe January 26, India’s Republic Day, as a Black Day in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, various Hurriyat organizations, through posters displayed in Srinagar and other areas, have declared their intention to protest against India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir by marking the day as a symbol of resistance. The posters stated that observing Black Day is a means for the oppressed people of Kashmir to inform the world that India’s Republic Day represents a failure of democracy and secularism in their eyes.

The call for a Black Day includes plans for a complete strike on January 26, hoisting black flags on houses, shops, and public structures, to protest against Indian occupation and state terrorism. The aim is to expose what they describe as the ‘ugly face’ of Indian democracy to the international community.

The posters also paid tribute to the victims of the Gaw Kadal Srinagar, Handwara, and Kupwara massacres, vowing to continue the struggle for the right to self-determination despite India’s suppressive tactics. The posters emphasized that the unresolved Kashmir dispute remains a major obstacle to regional peace and urged the United Nations to take steps towards its peaceful resolution.
