IIOJK to Celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in Unison with Pakistan

Srinagar, In a significant cultural affirmation, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday, April 10, in alignment with Pakistan, following the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee’s moon sighting announcement in Pakistan.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision was made public via mosque loudspeakers throughout IIOJK, with Ulemas and Mufti Azam Nasirul Islam confirming the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the completion of Ramadan’s 29-day cycle. This alignment with Pakistan’s Eid observance is a testament to the enduring cultural and religious connections between the people of IIOJK and Pakistan, transcending political boundaries.

This tradition, deeply rooted in the shared cultural and religious ethos of Kashmiris and Pakistanis, has persisted since Pakistan’s independence in 1947. It underscores an intrinsic bond, with the majority of IIOJK’s residents preferring to observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid in synchrony with Pakistan, rather than following official announcements from India. This practice highlights not only geographical proximity but a profound spiritual and cultural affiliation that has withstood the test of time.
