Srinagar, In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), posters have surfaced across various areas, calling on the populace to commemorate martyrs and observe India’s Republic Day on January 26 as Black Day.
According to Kashmir Media Service, these posters, displayed by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and other Hurriyet organizations, are placed on pillars, poles, and walls throughout the territory. They aim to protest against India’s forcible occupation of Kashmir and to reject the celebrations of Indian Republic Day in IIOJK, labeling them as a “cruel joke”. The posters also encourage holding special prayers for Kashmiri martyrs on the anniversaries of their deaths, circulating both physically and on social media platforms.
Haseeb Wani, spokesperson of the Jammu Kashmir National Front, in a statement from Srinagar, urged Kashmiris to mark India’s Republic Day as a day of protest, emphasizing that a country that denies basic rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir has no right to celebrate this day in the occupied territory. Wani condemned India’s prolonged occupation and violation of political and democratic rights in Kashmir. He pointed out the unfulfilled promises of a plebiscite and criticized the Indian government’s use of force to suppress Kashmiri aspirations. Wani also called upon the international community to recognize the unrest in the region as a direct result of India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir.
