IIOJK MeT predicts rain, warns against flash flood areas

Srinagar, July 05, 2022 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted more rainfall in the territory and also issued an advisory asking people to remain cautious and avoid venturing near such places which are vulnerable to flash flood.

An official of the MeT told the media that light to moderate rain occurred at many places of IIOJK on Tuesday. Intermittent light to moderate rain is likely to continue at many places of IIOJK during the next 24-36 hours, he said.

The MeT official further said that there’s already lots of water in local streams, rivers etc and due to melting of glaciers and addition of rain water in these streams often generate flash floods and mudslides. He advised the people to remain cautious and avoid venturing near such places which are vulnerable to flash floods.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Leh highway was on Tuesday morning closed for vehicular movement after fresh mudslides, triggered by rain occurred in Kullan Gund area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Officials told the media that the highway has got completely blocked due to mudslides.

On the other hand, the traffic movement on Tangdar-Chowkibal road in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district was on Tuesday suspended after landslides. An official said that heavy rainfall triggered landslides along Tangdar-Chowkibal road, following which traffic movement on the road was suspended.
