Srinagar, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, journalist, Sajad Gul, who was arrested by the Indian police in connection with a case registered against him, was granted bail by a local court in Bandipora district, today.
Sajad Gul has been arrested by the Indian police days after he posted a video of family members and relatives raising anti-India slogans after the martyrdom of their kin, during a cordon and search operation (CASO), in Srinagar.
He was charged under 120B (party to criminal conspiracy), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), and 505B (fear or alarm to the public) sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Sajad Gul was detained in an Indian Army raid on January 5 and was later handed over to the police.
One of the legal counsels of The Kashmir Walla, representing Sajad Gul, had filed a bail application on 10 January 2022 to ensure his release that has been admitted today by the Judicial Magistrate Sumbal Sonawari in Bandipora district. Umair Ronga, the counsel for Gul, told media “Court of Judicial Magistrate Sumbal has granted the bail to Sajad Gul after hearing the arguments from both sides.
Meanwhile, Gul’s arrest was widely condemned across the world by several organisations. The Press Council of India (PCI), a premier body in India meant for preserving the freedom of the press and of maintaining and improving the standards of newspapers and news agencies in India, also had taken cognisance of his arrest after the Jammu and Kashmir Journalists Association (JAKJA) wrote to them.
