IIOJK Congress Advocates for Immediate Statehood Restoration

Jammu: The Indian National Congress chapter in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has initiated a 15-day campaign to advocate for the restoration of statehood, asserting that New Delhi has not adhered to its commitments.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the IIOJK Congress chapter president, Tariq Hameed Karra, announced that the campaign, named “Our State, Our Right,” would commence in Udhampur. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for postponing the statehood restoration despite multiple promises, expressing concerns about the sincerity of the central government’s intentions.

Karra emphasized that reclaiming statehood is a crucial matter for the region. He remarked on the accountability of the BJP leadership for the ongoing delay. He noted a growing skepticism among the populace, who participated in democratic processes with the expectation of resolving everyday issues.

The Congress leader pointed out widespread dissatisfaction over governance, citing problems with electricity, ration distribution, roads, and water supply. He argued that the complex power dynamics in the region have led to public disillusionment, with the delay in statehood exacerbating their worries.

Karra also referenced recent security incidents, including the killing of two Indian army personnel in an IED blast, to question the government’s assurances of stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, he called for a judicial investigation into the recent custodial death of a civilian in Kathua.
