Officials said that a five-layer security arrangement, including sharpshooters, drone and CCTV surveillance has been put in place in IIOJK to ensure smooth conduct of the yatra. The 43-day-long yatra is scheduled to start tomorrow from the two routes – traditional Nunwan in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam and Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal – after a gap of three years owing to the COVID-19.
An official of Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force told the media that a five-layer security system with drones, radio frequency identification (RFID), and hundreds of CCTV cameras, has been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
He said the multi-tier security cover will be provided to the Hindu pilgrims by the 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces brought to the Kashmir Valley recently. Strong security arrangements have been made all along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, he added.
Another official, on the condition of anonymity told the media that sharp shooters will also be deployed atop high rise buildings, vintage points etc along the highway till the base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal. He said a team has been already constituted to monitor movement of people through CCTV cameras. “We have installed the cameras in all the areas wherever needed,’ he added.
The official further said besides paramilitary forces like BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police), SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), the army and police have also been deployed in large numbers to provide security to the pilgrims.
The authorities have deployed Indian troops in strength across the occupied territory, adding to the miseries of the local residents.
