IIOJK authorities flayed for disallowing Juma prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar

Srinagar, December 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has expressed strong resentment over the decision by the authorities to disallow Juma prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid for the 20th straight week and vehemently condemned the action.

The Anjuman and the Muslims of Kashmir are unable to understand that, on one hand, all the places of worship, including mosques, shrines, imambargahs and khanqahs in the territory are open for Friday prayers, but only Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, continues to be selectively banned and restricted from holding Friday prayers, which is extremely unfortunate and incomprehensible, the Anjuman said in a statement issued in Srinagar.

This behaviour of the rulers is tantamount to sheer interference in religion and hurting the religious sentiments and feelings of Muslims, which is unacceptable, it said. Due to the continued closure of the grand mosque, there is anger among the people from all walks of life, including men, women and elderly people, who want to come to the Jamia Masjid to perform important religious obligations such as Friday prayers, it said, adding this attitude of the rulers is utterly offensive and vindictive.

The Anjuman also expressed concern over the continued house detention of its head, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under illegal and arbitrary house arrest since 05 August 2019, which is extremely unfortunate and unacceptable for the people to prevent the topmost religious leader of Kashmir from discharging his official duties and carrying out his peaceful activities as the Mirwaiz.
