IGP Sindh Calls for Enhanced Security Measures for Chinese Nationals in Karachi

Karachi: In a significant move to bolster the security of Chinese nationals in Sindh, a comprehensive meeting was held at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. The meeting focused on a range of security issues and the implementation of necessary reforms within the Special Protection Unit (SPU) tasked with safeguarding Chinese experts working on various projects in the region.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting was attended by high-ranking officials including the Additional IG Operations, DIG Training and Establishment, IT, and SP. The discussion covered multiple aspects of security and operational strategies aimed at enhancing the safety of Chinese nationals involved in both CPEC and non-CPEC projects across Sindh.

DIG SPU provided a detailed briefing on the current security measures and police deployments designed to protect Chinese experts. The briefing highlighted the Sindh Police’s serious approach towards developing a robust action plan. This includes the recent incorporation of the newly graduated Chak and Choband squad, which comprises 1100 personnel, into the SPU. Additionally, the process of appointing new police personnel to the unit is underway as part of the broader security enhancement strategy.

IG Sindh emphasized the importance of appointing only the best and most conscientious officers and personnel to the SPU. He stressed that the security operations should ensure that all personnel are mentally and physically fit, active, and refreshed to effectively carry out their duties. Furthermore, IG Sindh directed that the duty hours and provision of adequate facilities for police personnel should be carefully managed to maintain high standards of service.

He also mandated the creation of a special curriculum focused on the mental development and alertness of officers serving under the SPU. Moreover, IG Sindh instructed that Chinese citizens and experts associated with various ongoing projects in Sindh must be provided with bulletproof vehicles by their hosts to enhance their safety during their tenure in the province.

The meeting underscores the Sindh Police’s commitment to strengthening the security framework for international experts, particularly those from China, who play a vital role in the region’s developmental projects.
