Islamabad, June 22, 2021 (PPI-OT): Inspector General Police Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman has asked the concerned officials to put in place stricter driving licence tests so that lives of the people could be secured to the maximum. According to the details, the IGP on Tuesday visited Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Headquarters where he was briefed about the procedure pertaining to driving licence tests being conducted at the headquarters. SSP (Traffic) Syed Karrar Hussain received the IGP. SP (Traffic) and other police officers were also present on the occasion. SSP (Traffic) while briefing the IGP said that over 35,000 vehicles were challaned for violation of traffic rules in the past week.
He said different measures were being taken to facilitate the residents that include provision of mobile phone to the sergeants, software for digital challan and driving licence, traffic education and distribution of helmets among the road-users free of cost. He said the ITP was offering the service of renewal of driving licence.
IG Qazi Jamil ur Rehman appreciated the performance of the ITP and directed them to further improve their services. He also inquired about the test procedure from the licence-seekers. He asked the officials that the driving tests must also judge the driver’s specific skills for instance reversing a vehicle in tight spots with reasonable accuracy. He was of the view that acquiring a driving licence may not be more of a formality than a test.
He said that the driving test be made much more stringent and only qualified people should get the driving licence. He also asked the high-ups to enforce traffic laws especially on Srinagar Highway and the Expressway. He directed the officials to take measures to avoid road accidents and take strict action against one-wheeling.
