Karachi: An important meeting was convened at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by Inspector General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to review measures related to the monitoring of addicted suspects. The meeting was attended by officials including Deputy Inspectors General from various branches, as well as officers from the Crime and Investigation Branch, CIA, Training, Headquarters, and IT.
According to Sindh Police, the meeting featured a detailed briefing by the Crime and Investigation Branch on the “Sindh Addicted Suspects Monitoring Act 2022” and its implementation process. It was highlighted that the courts will determine the supervision of accused individuals under this act. The monitoring process is set to begin at the police station level, with plans to extend it to divisions, zones, and central police offices.
IG Sindh emphasized that the constitution and law provide a clear definition of habitual offenders, necessitating comprehensive data collection on such individuals by Senior Superintendents of Police and their teams. He stressed the importance of managing the identity and data of incarcerated and addicted suspects effectively while providing training and awareness at the grassroots level.
Directives were issued for the arrangement of training courses for police officers and staff on the use of monitoring devices, with an implementation committee ensuring compliance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures. The initiative is expected to reduce pressure on jails, facilitating more efficient management of habitual offenders.
