IG Sindh Outlines Comprehensive Security Measures for Ramadan 2024

Karachi, IG Sindh Rifaat Mukhtar Raja chaired a high-level meeting to discuss and implement enhanced security measures for the upcoming month of Ramadan in 2024. The meeting, held via video conference at the Central Police Office Karachi, saw the participation of senior police officials from across Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas.

According to Sindh Police, the assembly focused on a wide range of strategies aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the public during the holy month. Key directives issued by IG Sindh included intensifying police patrols and snap checking in areas prone to street crime, especially in street markets across the Karachi zones.

The officials were tasked with reviewing and updating the list of mosques, Imam Bargahs, madrasas, and other open prayer sites to implement foolproof security and traffic plans at various levels, including police range, district, and zone levels. The plans are to be developed in consultation with all stakeholders, emphasizing the need for extraordinary security measures during Ramadan.

Raja highlighted the importance of considering crime analysis, law and order situations in other provinces, and specific incidents that could impact security strategies. Special attention is to be given to key dates within Ramadan, including the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali, odd nights, and Shab Qadr, with police commandos deployed to ensure heightened security.

Under the supervision of concerned SSPs and SDPOs, foolproof security for Taraweeh prayers held over various durations, including three-day, five-day, ten-day, and fortnight gatherings, was deemed essential. Additional measures such as technical sweeping, advanced intelligence sharing, random snap checking, and focused police deployment were prioritized to safeguard government and semi-government offices, buildings, sensitive installations, consulates, and places of worship belonging to minority communities.

The meeting also emphasized the need for collaboration with the transport community and representative organizations to facilitate the Ramadan Traffic Plan. This comprehensive approach aims to address security challenges comprehensively, ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the observance of Ramadan across Sindh.
