Karachi, In preparation for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, starting February 28, IG Sindh Rafat Mukhtar Raja chaired a high-level meeting to review and enhance security and traffic arrangements. The meeting focused on addressing the current security situation, traffic challenges, and establishing countermeasures to ensure a safe environment for the cricket series.
According to Sindh Police, IG Sindh emphasized the importance of collaboration and input from other law enforcement agencies and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to formulate a comprehensive security and traffic management plan. He insisted on the deployment of skilled, diligent, and experienced officers for the PSL events, underlining the necessity of preemptive measures to mitigate threats.
The IG directed that unnecessary roadblocks should be avoided to facilitate smooth traffic flow for citizens. Additionally, he highlighted the need for arrangements for iftar, dinner, and clean drinking water for officers and personnel on duty during the PSL matches, especially considering the event coincides with Ramadan.
A scheduled meeting with all stakeholders was proposed to ensure vigilance against suspicious elements and activities. IG Sindh advised immediate reporting of any suspicious or abandoned items to the authorities.
DIG Security and Emergency Response, participating in the meeting, disclosed that approximately 5,600 police personnel would be deployed for foolproof security during the PSL matches. Continuous 24-hour security will be provided to all domestic and foreign cricketers, coaches, staff, and delegates participating in the PSL.
DIG Traffic Karachi outlined a traffic plan to maintain flow on selected routes during the PSL matches, including informing citizens of alternative routes to minimize inconvenience. The plan ensures that no roads or highways will be permanently closed, though temporary closures may occur in consideration of the movement of cricketers and delegates. Information regarding alternative routes will be disseminated through media, social media, and the police FM radio station to guide citizens.
The enhanced security and traffic arrangements aim to ensure the PSL season 9 unfolds smoothly, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for cricket fans, players, and officials.
