IG Sindh Meets Lahore Press Club Delegation, Discusses Security Initiatives

Karachi: IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon welcomed a 17-member delegation from the Lahore Press Club, led by President Muhammad Arshad Ansari, to discuss security measures and law enforcement challenges in the region.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting held at the Central Police Office in Karachi included senior officials such as the DIG Headquarters Sindh, AIGs, and the Director of the Information Department Sindh. The IG expressed his appreciation for the visit, highlighting the shared challenges in combating crime across provinces. He detailed ongoing efforts to address crime, particularly in the Kutch areas, where deceptive practices lure individuals into criminal traps.

Ghulam Nabi Memon outlined several key initiatives undertaken by the Sindh police, including the deployment of modern weaponry to combat evolving criminal tactics, significant reductions in street crime in Karachi, and the strategic installation of facial recognition cameras to bolster city surveillance. He also mentioned the substantial progress in apprehending notorious criminals, with 45 dangerous robbers eliminated over the past seven months.

Furthermore, the IG emphasized the community’s role in the Safe City project, noting that about 40,000 surveillance cameras have been installed by citizens in their homes and businesses. The project’s next phase involves setting up around 1,200 additional cameras across the city by the following June.

The Sindh government is also enhancing police support through budget reallocations favoring police stations and offering health insurance benefits and an advance case allowance to improve the investigation department. President Muhammad Arshad Ansari of the Lahore Press Club commended these measures, acknowledging their impact on establishing peace in Sindh.
