IG Sindh Chairs Meeting to Address Traffic Violations and Promote Online Driving License Facility

Karachi: In a strategic meeting led by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office in Karachi, discussions centered on the performance of the online driving license facility and the causes and prevention of traffic rule violations. Drivers without licenses faced enforcement actions, with their vehicles taken into custody, and further instructions were issued.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting saw participation from Additional IG Operations Karachi, DIGs, and other senior officials from various branches, including Traffic and Driving License. DIGDL & Training highlighted various initiatives by the driving license branch, such as online training, learner’s licenses, and the renewal of non-commercial licenses. A significant observation from the traffic police’s research revealed that numerous motorcycle drivers lack licenses, contributing to severe accidents due to non-compliance with traffic rules. In Karachi alone, 28,685 traffic law violation tickets have been issued, with motorcyclists accounting for a substantial portion.

The meeting underscored the importance of awareness campaigns, with over 100 programs organized to address issues like wrong-way driving, signal jumping, and lane discipline. Special awareness camps were conducted in May across all 90 traffic sections. The Sindh Police is actively promoting traffic law awareness through various media channels. The Additional IG Karachi emphasized including all societal sections in these campaigns to prevent traffic accidents and laws violations.

IG Sindh tasked the accident assessment unit with identifying the causes of severe accidents and making the findings public to enhance awareness. The police assured support in necessary traffic measures and committed to minimizing unnecessary road checks. Concessions will be extended to citizens without driving licenses, and online record checks will be implemented. Driving training and licensing have been mandated for police trainees, and the process has been simplified online. IG Sindh urged citizens to extensively use the online driving license facility.
