Lahore, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has taken notice of the incident of death of a citizen on suspicion of theft due to violence in Gujranwala and demanded a report of the incident from RPO Gujranwala. IG Punjab directed CPO Gujranwala to conduct a self-inquiry into the incident and said that strict legal action should be taken against accused involved in violence.
Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that no citizen can be allowed to take the law into his own hands and no concession should be made in legal proceedings against the accused involved in breaking the law. CPO Gujranwala Capt (Retd) Syed Hamad Abid while giving details regarding the incident said that the citizens tortured a man named Ashraf as a motorcycle thief from which he died. He said that Gujranwala police have arrested 14 accused including three named accused involved in the incident while police teams are conducting raids to nab other accused.
CPO Gujranwala said that a case has been registered against three employees including SI Waheed Ullah for negligence in the incident. Moreover, a case has been registered against them and every aspect of case is being investigated. He said that justice would be ensured to the family of deceased by fulfilling legal requirements.
