Lahore: Dr. Usman Anwar, Inspector General of Police Punjab, conducted on-ground inspections of the security arrangements for the Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in Lahore and Multan, ensuring heightened vigilance and coordination among the police force.
According to Punjab Police, Dr. Anwar personally visited major procession routes and key religious sites, including the Karbala Gamay Shah Imambargah in Lahore, to assess the deployment and readiness of the police officers. He was accompanied by senior officers including DIG Operations Lahore, Muhammad Faisal Kamran, and other local law enforcement officials, emphasizing strict vigilance and public cooperation to maintain peace during the observances.
During his visit, IG Punjab interacted with police personnel, members of peace committees, and mourners to gather feedback on the security measures and facilities provided. He highlighted the deployment of 30,000 officers across the region tasked with ensuring the security of the processions and majalis, underlining the comprehensive efforts to prevent any disruptions.
In Multan, Dr. Anwar reviewed the security setups at significant locations like Imam Bargah Jawadia and Delhi Gate police station, where he was briefed on the detailed security preparations, including the use of modern surveillance technology and strategic placement of female officers to enhance security for women participants. Additional IG South Punjab, RPO Multan, and other high-ranking officials supported these efforts, ensuring adherence to stringent security protocols.
Dr. Anwar reiterated the commitment of Punjab Police to uphold the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directive to ensure peace and prevent unrest across the province. He also disclosed plans to expand the Safe City project to Multan and enhance coordination with intelligence agencies to improve security outcomes.
