Lahore: On the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, comprehensive security measures have been laid out across the province for the Day of Martyrdom of Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (RA), involving the deployment of over 30,000 police officers and personnel. This heightened security effort comes amid ongoing border tensions. According to Punjab Police, more than 8,000 personnel will be stationed in Lahore alone to safeguard mourning processions and gatherings.

The spokesperson for Punjab Police noted that the security plan includes the deployment of over 20,000 officers for 217 processions and more than 10,000 personnel for 994 gatherings province-wide. Security checks will involve the use of 2,029 metal detectors and 297 walk-through gates, with surveillance supported by Safe Cities Authority cameras and the district administration. In Lahore, 32 Category-A processions and 67 gatherings are scheduled, all monitored from the Central Police Office’s Control and Monitoring Room.

IG Punjab Abdul Kareem instructed police to remain vigilant and conduct thorough checks on participants. Female officers will handle security checks for women, and plainclothes commandos and rooftop snipers will be deployed along procession routes. Traffic will be managed through alternative routes, and a coordinated strategy involving Dolphin Squad, PRU, Special Branch, CTD, and all field formations will be implemented. Regional, city, and district police officers have been tasked with overseeing the security arrangements personally.
