IG Punjab Initiates Rs. 1 Billion Upgrade for Provincial Police Lines

Lahore: In a significant move to enhance the infrastructure of police facilities across Punjab, Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has ordered the upgradation of all Police Lines in the province, including those in Lahore. The initiative, announced in a press release, will see Rs. 1 billion allocated for improvements during the current fiscal year.

The funds will be directed towards enhancing the security and living conditions at the Police Lines. According to the statement, special attention will be given to fortifying boundary walls, which will be equipped with additional lights, watch posts, and barbed wire to address security concerns.

The initiative also includes plans to reconstruct and renovate residential barracks for police personnel. The upgrades aim to ensure that all necessary facilities are provided in these barracks, reflecting the importance placed on the welfare of the constabulary, which Dr. Anwar described as the backbone of the police force.

Kitchens and stores within the Police Lines will also undergo upgrades to meet hygiene standards. Importantly, the budget for these upgrades will be drawn from the repair and maintenance funds, rather than the development budget.

Dr. Anwar noted that an estimated expenditure of Rs. 20 to 30 million has been earmarked for each Police Line. This comprehensive plan underscores the commitment to improving the working and living conditions of police personnel in Punjab.
