IG Punjab Honors Medal-Winning Athletes from 34th National Games

LAHORE, Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, acknowledged the exceptional performance of the Punjab Police athletes in the 34th National Games by awarding cash prizes and certificates of appreciation. The athletes clinched gold, silver, and bronze medals, bringing laurels to their department.

According to a new release by the Punjab Police, a special ceremony was conducted in Lahore today to celebrate the achievements of the Punjab Police athletes who secured medals in the recent National Games. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar bestowed cash awards and appreciation certificates to the medalists. The Punjab Police players and teams earned a commendable total of 15 medals across various sports categories. Notably, 442 players represented the Punjab Police in the National Games, showcasing remarkable performance in 27 diverse sports. The football team of the police secured the gold medal, triumphing over the Pakistan Air Force team.

Delving into specifics, the IG distributed cash awards amounting to 9.5 lakh rupees to 12 standout performers. The gold-medal-winning football team players were each granted 50 thousand rupees along with certificates of appreciation. Moreover, seven athletes received a lakh rupees each, complemented by appreciation certificates, for attaining bronze medals in individual categories.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anwar emphasized the significance of sports in fostering national character and lauded the stellar performance of the police athletes. He also unveiled plans to establish a sports cadre within the police force, resembling the structures in other institutions like WAPDA, Army, and Railways. The initiative aims to boost sports in the police department, offering employment opportunities to top athletes. Encouraging continuous improvement, Dr. Anwar urged the players to intensify their training and preparation to clinch more medals in future events.

The ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Director General Pakistan Police Sports Board Additional IG Welfare Muhammad Riaz Nazir Gara, Additional IG Punjab Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, DIG Logistics Athar Ismail, AIG Discipline Ahsan Saifullah, and AIG Welfare Naveed Ajmal.
