Lahore, October 21, 2022 (PPI-OT): Inspector General Police Punjab Faisal Shahkar has said that incidents of torture and escape of accused in police custody are not acceptable under any circumstances, strict departmental and legal action should be taken against the responsible supervisory officers and officials involved in such incidents. IG Punjab expressed strong displeasure over the incident of death of a citizen in Sargodha police custody.
He directed RPO Sargodha that the officials involved in this unfortunate incident should not only be arrested but should also be given severe punishment. IG Punjab directed that if incident of death of an accused while in custody occurs in any district in future, then the district police officer will also have to answer.
IG Punjab, while expressing concern over the increase in the rate of crime in the provincial capital Lahore, directed that a special campaign to eradicate street crime and organized crime should be launched in all major cities of the province including Lahore. He said that operations should be conducted on a daily basis against organized groups involved in robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, murder and other heinous crimes.
IGP directed to submit progress report to Central Police Office regularly. IG Punjab directed that a strong crackdown should be taken against the big gangs involved in the nefarious drug trade and supply chain, especially the anti-social elements who lure the young students to fashionable and dangerous drugs. IG Punjab directed that priority operations should be conducted against criminals of drug supply chain in educational institutions and hostels of major districts.
In view of the dangers of smog, IG Punjab directed the officers to speed up countermeasures with the district administration to prevent smog in all the districts of the province and take immediate actions against smoke-emitting vehicles, factories, kilns and crop residue. He directed that Punjab Highway Patrol and Traffic Police should take concrete measures to prevent traffic accidents on the roads.
IG Punjab issued these instructions to all the RPOs, DPOs of the province while presiding over the RPOs Conference at the Central Police Office today. During the conference, all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs of the province participated through video link.
In the conference, CCPO Lahore, RPOs and DPOs gave a briefing about police operations. IG Punjab appreciated performance of concerned officers for the peaceful conduct of by-elections in 6 districts. IG Punjab stressed upon field officers to take strict legal actions against accused of gender crimes and vehicle theft crimes. Additional IG Special Branch Punjab, Operations, Investigation, Welfare, Training, PHP, CTD, DIGs and other officers were also present in the conference.
