Bahawalpur: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, conducted a detailed inspection of the Muharram security arrangements in the Bahawalpur and Sahiwal regions. His visit focused on assessing the readiness of the police force in managing the security of the significant religious events scheduled during this period.
According to Punjab Police, Dr. Anwar’s tour included major procession routes and Majalis locations in both regions. In Bahawalpur, he was briefed by the Regional Police Officer (RPO) and the District Police Officer (DPO) about the measures in place, particularly along the A-category procession route of Glass Street at Police Station Kotwali. The IG met with security officials and organizers, emphasizing the need for a high level of vigilance and cooperation between the police, district government, and peace committees.
The visit extended to Sahiwal, where Dr. Anwar reviewed the arrangements for A-category processions and Majalis. He directed the police teams to utilize all available resources to ensure a peaceful Muharram. Significant locations like important Imam Bargahs and central procession routes were inspected, with the DPO of Sahiwal providing updates on the security plans.
Dr. Anwar affirmed that these comprehensive security measures are being implemented across Punjab under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aiming to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances during the holy month of Muharram.
