IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar Leads Review on Police Centers for Vulnerable Groups

Lahore, In a concerted effort to enhance the support network for victims of gender crimes and vulnerable populations, Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar chaired a meeting to review the operations of Police Tahaffuz Marakaz and Meesaq Centers across the province.

According to Punjab Police, Dr. Anwar emphasized the need to expand the outreach of Tahaffuz Marakaz to provide more comprehensive assistance and protection for individuals affected by social insecurities, exploitation, and violence. He specifically highlighted the importance of immediate and effective response to issues faced by transgender individuals and women, and advocated for increased protection for homeless children.

During the meeting, which was attended via video link by all District Police Officers (DPOs) and Victim Support Officers of Punjab, Dr. Anwar directed that the job contracts of victim support officers would be extended based on their performance, with warnings issued for unsatisfactory results. He also noted that issues affecting minority citizens are being promptly addressed through Meesaq centers, and ordered DPOs to conduct surprise visits to assess the effectiveness of these initiatives.

Further discussions underscored the implementation of projects like Tahaffuz Manzil and Tahaffuz Darsgah in all districts to aid deserving citizens and children. Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Amara Athar described the Tahaffuz center as a flagship project in community policing, urging the extension of its scope and reaffirming the commitment to utilize all resources to address women’s issues specifically.

Additional high-ranking officials, including Additional IG Traffic Mirza Faran Baig and DIG Operations Lahore Ali Nasir Rizvi, were present, indicating a unified approach towards bolstering police services for vulnerable sections of the community.
