IG Punjab Attends Funeral of Martyred Officer, Pledges Support for Bereaved Family

Lahore: IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar attended the funeral of Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazir Ahmad at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines, who was martyred during a confrontation with a proclaimed offender in Lahore’s Sundar area. The ceremony saw high-ranking officials and a significant police presence, reflecting the department’s tribute to the fallen officer.

According to Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, along with city police chief CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, and several other dignitaries, participated in the somber event. The Inspector General paid his respects by laying a floral wreath and saluting the body of ASI Nazir Ahmad. A special guard of honor was also presented by an active squad of police at the ceremony. The gathering included heartfelt prayers for the departed, emphasizing his bravery and dedication to duty.

Dr. Usman Anwar expressed his condolences to ASI Nazir Ahmad’s family, underscoring the department’s commitment to the welfare of the families of martyrs. The IG met with the late officer’s son and assured him of ongoing support, highlighting that the police force remembers the sacrifices of its members and takes active steps to look after their families.

Further reflecting on the force’s sacrifices, IG Punjab mentioned that the Punjab Police has lost 1639 officers like ASI Nazir Ahmad and continues to support over 1700 surviving members who have faced similar dangers. He issued directives to senior officers to maintain close contact with the families of martyred personnel, ensuring their well-being is a priority.

The incident that led to ASI Nazir Ahmad’s death occurred last night when he was confronting a wanted criminal. Following the tragic event, IG Punjab ordered an immediate investigation and stressed the importance of apprehending and prosecuting the assailant swiftly.
