Lahore: In a significant gesture of recognition, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has awarded 10 million rupees to 100 police officers who were injured in the line of duty. Each officer, known as a “Ghazi” for their bravery, will receive 100,000 rupees for their injuries sustained from criminal gunfire while protecting citizens and property.
According to Punjab Police, the awards were distributed among officers who have shown exceptional courage under fire. Notably, one officer who sustained six gunshot wounds was highlighted for his extraordinary bravery. The list also includes nine officers who each suffered three gunshot wounds, 25 who received two, and 65 who were hit by a single bullet during various operations against criminals.
Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the department’s commitment to supporting the injured officers, stating that the Punjab Police is ensuring the best possible treatment and a swift recovery for all affected personnel. He also mentioned that the Ghazi officers are being awarded Ghazi Medals in recognition of their sacrifices. Underlining the force’s storied legacy of valor, Dr. Anwar noted that the Punjab Police includes 1,638 martyrs and more than 1,700 Ghazi officers, with a focus on prioritizing the welfare of these officers and their families.
