IFJHRJK welcomes MEPs letter highlighting IIOJK’s situation

Srinagar, July 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the International Forum for Justice Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir (IFJHRJK) has welcomed the letter of the European Parliamentary members addressed to the President of the Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen, and Vice President of the Commission/High Representative Josep Borrell, to bring attention to the alarming human rights situation in the territory.

The IFJHRJK Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in a statement issued in Srinagar said the people of IIOJK are suffering enormously at the hands of Indian forces. He said that since August 5, 2019 when the Modi-led fascist Indian government unilaterally repealed Kashmir’s status, the miseries of the people have witnessed a massive increase.

He deplored that the violations had been well documented by the human rights organisations including the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir. Untoo said that since 2019, Indian authorities had imposed restrictions on the rights to movement, access to information, healthcare, education as well as free speech and the same had been intensified in the past two years.

He said, even journalists, teachers, students and human rights defenders have been targeted for raising their voice in support of the Kashmiri people. Arbitrary detentions continue, public assembly is still prohibited under Section 144 and hundreds, including minors and several elected legislators of Kashmir, remain under detention, he added.

Untoo said that the Indian authorities had used draconian laws including Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), against Kashmiris. He said, the situation is turning into a humanitarian crisis, while the world has become a mute spectator. Welcoming the letter by the European parliamentarians, he said the parliamentarians should continue to raise their voice in favour of the oppressed Kashmiris and against the war crimes and rights violations in IIOJK.
