Guwahati, November 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):In brazen interference in the religious matters of Muslims and other minorities, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Chief Minister of the Indian state of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has said that just as Hindus marry only once, people of other religions will also have to do the same. Himanta Biswa Sarma addressing a rally in Gujarat state, which is going for polls in the first phase on December 01, in a bid to seek votes for party candidates, raised the issue of Uniform Civil Code.
He said that like Hindus, people of other religions should also have the right to marry only once. “There is a person who marries twice-thrice, a clear reference to Muslims who are allowed polygamy. “But why would you marry thrice, why would you marry four times? If a Hindu does one marriage in the country, then people of other religions will also have to do the same marriage. How will you marry twice-thrice?
That is why I am saying today that the country needs a Uniform Civil Code,” he said. He said the BJP has promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code after forming the government in Gujarat. Earlier in Uttarakhand also BJP directed this bet.
