Hutchison Ports Seeks Expansion at Karachi Port, Meets with Pakistan Maritime Minister

Islamabad: A delegation from Hutchison Ports Company met with Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, to discuss expansion opportunities at the South Asian Port Terminal of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The meeting underscores a growing interest in enhancing maritime operations and facilities in the region.

According to Press Information Department, the discussions focused on improving terminal operations and expanding Hutchison Ports’ activities in Karachi. Minister Sheikh expressed strong government support for the company’s initiatives and assured the delegation of efforts to facilitate growth in the maritime sector. “The Ministry is dedicated to collaborating with Hutchison Ports to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the South Asian Port Terminal,” said Minister Sheikh. He highlighted the critical role Hutchison Ports plays in regional trade and the government’s readiness to support increased business activities at the port.

The meeting also involved senior officials such as Secretary Maritime Affairs Syed Zafar Ali Shah and Additional Secretary Umar Zafar Sheikh, emphasizing the strategic importance of the discussions. Both parties expressed optimism about the potential for a productive partnership that would elevate the terminal’s operational standards and contribute positively to the regional economy.
