Hurriyat Leaders Demand Release of Detained Kashmiri Political Figures

Srinagar: Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Abdul Samad Inqilabi and Maulana Musaib Nadvi, have vocally condemned the ongoing detention of Kashmiri political leaders in various prisons across India and in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, calling for their immediate release.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Inqilabi and Nadvi issued separate statements in Srinagar, advocating for the freedom of several detained figures, including Hayat Ahmed Butt, Umar Aadil Dar, Firdous Ahmad Shah, Bilal Siddiqui, and Abdul Ahad Para. They highlighted the deteriorating health of Hayat Ahmed Butt, detained since October 2019 in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, following his protest against the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by the Indian government.

The Hurriyat leaders criticized the harsh conditions under which these political prisoners are held, including the lack of basic necessities such as medical care and adequate food, contributing to severe health decline and various illnesses. They also spoke against the restricted communication with family and the illegal detention practices, including the recent re-imprisonment of IIOJK JI leader Dr. Hameed Fayyaz post-parole.

The statements strongly denounced the treatment of APHC Chairman Masarrat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and others held in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, underlining the need for their immediate release to uphold justice and human rights.
