Srinagar, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has voiced significant concerns over the Indian government’s decision not to declare an official holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), attributing the decision to a broader disregard for the region’s Muslim population.
According to Kashmir Media Service, despite the announcement of Eid-ul-Fitr by local religious authorities, including Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, the Modi-led government chose not to recognize the festival as a public holiday. This decision forced many government employees to work on a day traditionally reserved for celebration and prayer, leading to widespread confusion and disappointment within the community.
Agha Moosvi addressed these issues during a gathering in Budgam, highlighting the distress among government workers who were marked absent if they chose to observe the holiday. He emphasized that this action reflects a disregard for the cultural and religious practices of Kashmiri Muslims.
Additionally, Moosvi expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly in light of recent attacks in Gaza that resulted in the loss of family members of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, noting the profound impact of such events on the people of IIOJK.
