Hurriyat Leader Calls on UN to Intervene in Kashmir Crisis

Srinagar, Masarrat Aalam Butt, the Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, currently detained, has called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to intervene in the Kashmir dispute and halt the alleged genocide of Kashmiri people by the Indian government led by Narendra Modi in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Butt, in a message from the Tihar Jail in New Delhi, highlighted the severe militarization of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing it as the world’s most militarized zone where the value of human life has severely deteriorated. He detailed the ongoing extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, torture, and widespread human rights abuses purportedly carried out by Indian occupation forces, stating these have become routine in the region.

Butt emphasized that the Kashmiri population is enduring extreme atrocities for demanding their right to self-determination, a right he asserts is inalienable and recognized internationally. He urged the United Nations to press India to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions, cautioning that further delays could have dire consequences not only for South Asia but for global peace and security.

The APHC chairman also painted a grim picture of life in Kashmir, where residents live under constant fear and oppression, subjected to the Indian government’s harsh measures. He accused the Modi administration of methodically eroding the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including their basic right to life.
