Hurriyat Conference Condemns India’s Military Approach in Kashmir, Calls for Political Resolution

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has sharply criticized India’s militaristic tactics in addressing the Kashmir dispute, labeling these efforts as both “unrealistic” and “arrogant.” The APHC insists that the issue should be resolved politically, respecting the Kashmiri right to self-determination as recognized by the United Nations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, from his cell in Tihar Jail, APHC leader Masarrat Alam Butt issued a plea to global leaders, urging them to intervene in the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Butt highlighted the critical implications of ignoring Kashmiri aspirations for self-determination—a stance backed by multiple UN Security Council resolutions—warning of significant regional and global repercussions.

The APHC Chairman criticized the Indian government’s reliance on military force to quash Kashmiri political movements, referencing the surge in violence, arbitrary arrests, and widespread human rights abuses following the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019. Butt refuted Indian claims of restoring normalcy in the region, pointing out the ongoing severe military and police crackdowns.

Butt called on the UN Secretary-General to acknowledge the grave violations committed by Indian forces in IIOJK and to facilitate a peaceful resolution in line with international mandates, aiming to prevent further violence and loss.
