Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has commemorated the 26th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed S Hameed Wani, a prominent leader in the Kashmiri resistance movement, today in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Wani was arrested by Indian police on April 18, 1998, in the Soura area of Srinagar and was subsequently killed in custody on the same day. The APHC, through spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, expressed profound respect and reverence for Wani’s sacrifice, describing him as a legendary figure whose legacy continues to inspire freedom seekers across the region.
Advocate Minhas emphasized that the sacrifices of Wani and other martyred Kashmiri leaders would not be in vain, pledging that their struggle for self-determination would persist until it achieves its rightful conclusion. Similarly, statements from other Hurriyat leaders and organizations, including the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party through spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal, hailed Wani’s unwavering commitment and contributions to the Kashmiri freedom cause.
The remembrance also featured praises from figures like Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, Mohammad Yasin Atae, and Imtiyaz Reshi, who lauded Wani’s role as an iconic figure in the ongoing struggle. They collectively affirmed that the mission of Kashmiri martyrs would be continued until it reaches a logical and just end.
