Hurriyat Conference and Experts Highlight Crisis in Kashmir, Call for International Action

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and various political experts have expressed deep concerns about the worsening conditions in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), urging immediate international intervention to help resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during interviews in Srinagar, APHC leaders and analysts pointed out the severe impact of the deployment of over one million Indian troops in the region. They emphasized the necessity of a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, advocating for a UN-supervised plebiscite to determine the final status of Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions occurred under conditions of anonymity, with participants citing fear of reprisal from Indian authorities.

The experts and leaders criticized the Indian government’s continuous neglect of UN resolutions that support the Kashmiri right to self-determination, arguing that India’s policies have perpetuated a cycle of militarization and heightened nuclear tensions in South Asia. They specifically noted the increase in human rights violations following the Indian government’s revocation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, which stripped the region of its semi-autonomous status.

Further, they denounced the Indian ruling party’s claims of normalcy and development in the region as misleading, contrasting sharply with the reality of increased violence and suppression. The speakers expressed fears about the dire consequences of the current policies under both the Indian central government and its local proxies in IIOJK.

The call to the international community was clear: to pressure India to adhere to UN directives for resolving the Kashmir conflict and to hold Indian leaders accountable for alleged war crimes in the region. The unresolved dispute, they warned, continues to fuel regional instability and conflict.
