Hurriyat activist tortured to death in Indian army custody in Jammu

Jammu, February 12, 2023 (PPI-OT): A Muslim youth and brother of a Hurriyat activist was tortured to death during the custody of India army in Udhampur district of Jammu region. The Muslim youth identified as Shamsuddin who was the brother of a Jammu-based Hurriyat activist Anas was martyred at the Indian Army’s torture center in Udhampur.

Anas, the brother of the martyred youth, is currently in Muzaffarabad and belongs to Badr area of Mahur tehsil of Udhampur district.

A month ago, Indian army and police arrested Shamsuddin son of Jamaluddin from their house and took him to the army center. Shamsuddin was in the Interrogation Center of the Indian Army since then and was subjected to severe torture during the arrest. On Saturday night, Shamsuddin’s dead body was handed over to his family members in his native village Badr stating that Shamsuddin died of a heart attack. This is not the first incident as thousands of Kashmiri youths have gone missing, believed to have been killed in custody or fake encounters by the Indian Army.
