Huawei and Pakistan Forge Path for Digital Economic Expansion

Islamabad, In a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s digital economy, a meeting was held between Huawei’s top executives and Planning Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal. The discussions focused on integrating digital projects into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase II and explored various initiatives to boost Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and capabilities.

According to Press Information Department, the Huawei delegation, led by CEO Mr. Ethan Sun, emphasized Pakistan’s burgeoning role in the global digital economy, noting that Pakistanis constitute the second largest nationality in Huawei’s employment roster. The meeting highlighted potential projects under the CPEC’s next phase, aligning with Pakistan’s Digital Economy Strategy to harness the full spectrum of digital transformation opportunities.

Key discussions centered on establishing a robust digital corridor in Pakistan, with focus areas including connectivity, data centers, firewall protection, and smart governance. These elements are deemed crucial for fostering economic growth and ensuring Pakistan’s competitiveness in the digital age. The Minister outlined a vision for Islamabad as a model smart city and discussed Huawei’s potential role in establishing an Innovation Center at UET Narowal, further solidifying the tech giant’s commitment to Pakistan’s technological advancement.
